Army soldier arrested after Tapaz woman’s shooting

ROXAS CITY, Capiz — An unmarried woman was seriously wounded after a Philippine Army soldier allegedly shot her Monday evening, Aug. 10, in Sitio Quinalihan, Barangay Apero, Tapaz, Capiz.
Police identified the victim only as alias “Jera,” a resident of the barangay. The suspect was identified as alias “June,” 38, a soldier and resident of Barangay Roxas, Tapaz.
An initial investigation by Tapaz police found that the suspect arrived and allegedly fired several shots at the woman, striking her in the shoulder with a firearm of undetermined caliber.
Police responded and launched a hot-pursuit operation that led to the suspect’s arrest.
The suspect remains in the custody of the Tapaz Municipal Police Station while police prepare appropriate charges against him.
