BACOLOD CITY — Authorities from the Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region served an arrest warrant for rebellion or insurrection against a 57-year-old woman linked to a previous armed encounter between New People’s Army rebels and government forces in Negros Oriental.
Personnel of the Manjuyod Municipal Police Station, in coordination with the Malaybalay City Police Station in Bukidnon, served the warrant Friday at the Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center in Barangay Casisang, Malaybalay City.
Police identified the suspect as alias “Gwen,” a resident of Butuan City, Agusan del Norte, who was tagged as the fourth most wanted person in the Negros Island Region.
According to PRO-NIR, the suspect was already detained at the facility in connection with another warrant.
The accused allegedly participated in an armed encounter involving suspected NPA rebels, the Philippine Army’s 704th Maneuver Company, and Regional Mobile Force Battalion 7 on June 22, 2019, at Sitio Kambugtong, Barangay Bantolinao, Manjuyod, Negros Oriental.
Police Brig. Gen. Romano Cardiño, PRO-NIR director, said authorities would continue strengthening efforts to serve warrants and ensure that wanted persons face the charges filed against them.
“We will continue to uphold the rule of law while
respecting the rights of every individual throughout the legal process,” he said.
