NANJING, China — The University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos in Bacolod City and Nanjing Normal University Zhongbei College in China explored opportunities for academic cooperation focused on artificial intelligence, research and innovation, and academe-social enterprise collaboration during a recent institutional discussion.
The collaboration is among the initiatives outlined in a memorandum of understanding signed by the two institutions as part of their commitment to strengthen academic cooperation and international engagement.
NNU Zhongbei College Vice President Chen Bo and academic administrators welcomed the UNO-R delegation led by Rev. Fr. Joel A. Alve, OAR, and toured them around the university.
The visit included the College of Artificial Intelligence and laboratories where students engage in academic-social enterprise initiatives.
Among the key areas discussed was NNU Zhongbei’s commitment to provide training in artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things for faculty and students from primary through graduate education.
The initiative is expected to open opportunities for capacity-building and knowledge exchange between the two institutions.
NNU Zhongbei also showcased its collaborations with international technology and industry partners, including Huawei and Shopee, highlighting how academic learning can be connected with real-world enterprise and innovation.
Fr. Alve reaffirmed UNO-R’s commitment to providing quality, relevant, and future-ready education and training that responds to the evolving needs of industries and the global workforce.
Joining Fr. Alve in the internationalization visit were Rev. Fr. Leo G. Alaras, OAR, vice president for academics and research; Dr. Yasmin Pascual-Dormido, LPT, director for international affairs; and Dr. Agnes Sequiño, consultant.
The engagement advances the MOU’s goal of building academic linkages that translate technology, research, innovation, and industry collaboration into transformative learning opportunities and broader societal impact.
The partnership also reflects a growing emphasis among higher education institutions on international collaboration in artificial intelligence and applied research as universities prepare students for technology-driven industries and cross-border academic work. (UNO-R)
