Wimbledon: Zverev marches to the third round after sweeping American foe

Alexander Zverev’s quest for his first-ever Grand Slam championship title will continue after blanking Marcos Giron of the US- 6.2, 6.1, 6.4- in the ongoing Wimbledon tennis tournament on July 5, 2024.

With another one-sided victory, Zverev just extended his dominant run in the most prestigious grass surface tennis tournament in the world after notching his second straight 3-0 win in three days.

Just like his clinical performance against Roberto Carballes-Baena in the first round, Zverev showed no mercy on Giron and pounced on him when the first set kicked off.

Banking on his signature powerful forehand stroke and well-calculated off-the-bounce volley shots, Zverev found no difficulties in figuring the American’s game and cruised to an early 1-0 lead.

All Zverev had to do was to control the baseline exchanges and catch Giron off guard by attacking the net in his second service possession.

With the consecutive winners that that strategy provided, Zverev just kept on repeating the beneficial move to dominate the American challenger.

However, Giron finally had something in his bag in the third set when he held a couple of his serves to keep the game closer.

Just when Giron had the little momentum, Zverev reverted to his aggressive mode and capped off the win with a service hold and an ace.

After only three sets, Zverev tallied one of his most impressive serving games in any Grand Slam tournament after collecting 18 service aces.

Zverev had an 86% first-service winning percentage and broke the American five times out of 14 total attempts.

The German superstar will only have several hours of rest before resuming his Wimbledon campaign today against Cameron Norrie of Great Britain.
