The final delegation for the Alas Pilipinas Women’s National Volleyball Team’s coaching staff is now complete.
On May 5, 2026, the Philippine National Volleyball Federation formally appointed Sherwin Meneses and Shaq Delos Santos as the lead deputies for head coach Tai Bundit, forming an experienced think tank that will call the shots for Alas Women in upcoming international tournaments.
Meneses, the winningest coach in Premier Volleyball League (PVL) history after leading the Creamline Cool Smashers to seven championships in five years, is ready to take on a new role and will reunite with Bundit.
The decorated mentor previously worked with Bundit at Ateneo and Creamline, serving as an assistant before assuming the full-time role as head coach for the Rebisco-backed PVL franchise.
Aside from his local and national success, Meneses also brings rich international experience after coaching alongside Dante Alinsunurin for the Alas Men’s National Volleyball Team.
Meanwhile, Delos Santos, a household name in Philippine volleyball since 2008, will return to the international stage, having previously coached the national team in 2019.
Like Meneses, Delos Santos is also a proven winner in the Philippine volleyball landscape after collecting four championships with Petron in the now-defunct Philippine Super Liga.
Delos Santos then transitioned to the PVL, where he steered the Cignal Super Spikers to eight podium finishes before the franchise decided to take a leave of absence just a month ago.
According to the PNVF, Alas Women will begin training this week before transferring to Candon in Ilocos Sur to resume their intensive camp from May 24 to June 5.
The national team is set to prepare for the upcoming AVC Women’s Volleyball Cup, where the participating nations will be divided into two pools.
Participants included in the final list are the Philippines, Vietnam, Chinese Taipei, Korea, Iran, Kazakhstan, Australia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Lebanon.
