The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) confirmed that they will be rewarding World Gymnastics champion Carlos Yulo with a 750,000-peso special cash incentive.
After clinching the gold medal in the vault event and the silver medal in the parallel bars held at Kitakyushu, Japan, Yulo made history as the only Filipino to achieve such a feat.
The 500,000 pesos is for Yulo’s gold medal while the 250,000 pesos will be for his silver medal as announced by PSC chairman William “Butch” Ramirez.
Ramirez also explained that Yulo’s milestones in Japan are not covered by the Republic Act no. 10699, or the National Athletes and Coaches Benefits and Incentives Act.
So to repay Yulo’s efforts for the country, Ramirez and the rest of the PSC board arranged a special cash incentive prize.
“Every incentive that he receives is well-deserved. By sheer will and determination, Caloy has created his own niche in the halls of Philippine Sports history,” said Ramirez.
Aside from Yulo, the PSC also awarded Filipino pole vaulter EJ Obiena with cash incentives after breaking the PH and Asian record during his recent international stint.
