The Philadelphia 76ers will be bringing back veteran floor general Kyle Lowry for one more year confirmed on July 12, 2024.
Despite a failed playoff run together with Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey, the 76ers will still be banking on Lowry’s championship experience and leadership in the upcoming NBA season set to kick off this October.
Last February 11, 2024, Philadelphia acquired Lowry from the Miami Heat midway through the NBA season. Initially, the point guard was dealt to the Charlotte Hornets, but the franchise agreed to a contract buyout that sent him to the 76ers.
Although Lowry’s scoring load dipped upon arriving in Philadelphia, he became the team’s stabilizer and started for the team in all their playoff games.
During their playoff loss against the New York Knicks, Lowry didn’t focus on scoring anymore and orchestrated Philadelphia’s offense, making sure that Embiid and Maxey would get to their spots to kick off their sets.
Lowry averaged 8.0 points and 4.6 assists for the 76ers and capped off the season with an impressive 40.4% shooting from the three-point range.
This was already a positive move for the 76ers after previously signing former Los Angeles Clippers’ superstar skipper Paul George.
With the quartet of Embiid, Maxey, Lowry, and George, Philadelphia fans are already optimistic about a better NBA playoff run under the mentorship of head coach Nick Nurse.
However, Philadelphia already released their main power forward, Tobias Harris, after getting traded to the Detroit Pistons on a two-year deal.
Kelly Oubre Jr. is expected to replace his role and will have a group of wingmen that can defend and shoot the rock from deep including Caleb Martin and Eric Gordon.
