Manny Pacquiao (MP) promotions president Sean Gibbons wants Jonas Sultan to fight immediately after scoring a sensational upset against Carlos Caraballo three days ago.
After the unanimous decision victory that earned him the World Boxing Organization intercontinental bantamweight title, Gibbons started to call Sultan as “Man of Destiny.”
The MP promotions head honcho said Sultan can already go up against the top dogs of the bantamweight division with the likes of World Boxing Association and IBF champion Naoya Inoue, WBO champion John Riel Casimero, and World Boxing Council king Nonito Donaire.
However, bouts against the fighters Gibbons mentioned would not be possible this year as all of those fighters already have scheduled fights and title defenses before the year ends.
Sultan’s head trainer Joven Jimenez and manager Junnie Navarro picked Inoue as their favorable opponent but they will have to wait until next year as the Japanese boxer is set to defend his belts against Thai Aran Dipaen on December 14 in Tokyo.
On the other hand, Navarro said that Sultan might go home to the Philippines first to see his family and take a break after a long stay in the United States.
“He has been in the United States for a long time and he misses his family. I’m sure he’ll be more inspired, driven, and focused when he reports back for training. I’ll guarantee coach (Joven) and Gibbons he’ll return on time,” said Navarro.
