Classic Vasiliy Lomachenko.
After three minutes of reading what Richard Commey could throw, the former lightweight king of boxing just cruised past the contest and dominated the whole fight to clinch another huge victory in the 135-lbs. division.
Slick, crafty, creative. Lomachenko’s bread and butter stood out in the classic win against Commey and re-asserted his status in the lightweight division.
It was a striking display for Commey in the first round as the former International Boxing Federation (IBF) lightweight champion let Lomachenko know he can hit with power.
However, it did not take long for the Ukrainian boxer to gauge the distance and style Commey had as he dominantly operated at the start of the second round when he almost scored the first knockdown of the fight off a solid left hook.
It was all Lomachenko in the succeeding rounds and just piled up the points in the scorecards after his signature in-and-out offensive sequence kept on connecting every time Commey attempted to brawl.
With 1:58 remaining in the seventh round, Lomachenko finally scored the first knockdown after a vicious short left hook that dropped the Ghanian to the canvass.
Although Commey got up and survived the round, Lomachenko kept on pouring the attack and showed why he is still one of the top lightweights in boxing and completely grabbed rounds eight to 12 to win via unanimous decision.
“I saw his situation, it was very hard for him. That’s why I said, stop the fight. He is a true warrior. He has a big heart and we continue and we show for people 12 great rounds,” Lomachenko said in the post-fight.
With the huge victory, Lomachenko just presented his case as one of the top candidates to dethrone Australian George Kambosos who previously defeated Teofimo Lopez for the undisputed lightweight supremacy.
