Laborer fatally shot in front of wife

BACOLOD City – Police are investigating the possibility that the fatal shooting of a 68-year-old laborer in Barangay Quintin Remo, Moises Padilla, Negros Occidental, last Tuesday may be related to insurgency activities.

Police Captain Armel Lasap, the town’s police chief, reported that the victim and his wife had just arrived at their home when three unidentified individuals approached and greeted them. The encounter turned deadly when the victim was shot by the assailants, resulting in his death.

“The victim succumbed to gunshot wounds to the face and chest,” Lasap said. The assailants fled the scene, leaving the wife unharmed.

Investigators recovered several .45 caliber bullet casings at the scene. Lasap noted that the victim had no previous records with local law enforcement, and the motive for the attack remains unclear.

This incident marks the first reported shooting in the rural barangay this month. It follows another incident on April 25 in nearby Barangay Inolingan, which the New People’s Army (NPA) claimed responsibility for, according to Lasap.
