Phoenix Suns superstar small forward Kevin Durant is set to miss several USA Basketball training sessions due to a minor calf strain.
According to Team USA’s head coach Steve Kerr, Durant will be sidelined and is labeled as “day-to-day” until their medical staff officially clears him for all-out physical training.
The management is still optimistic that Durant will heal up quickly, adding that his injury isn’t considered serious and is only for precautionary measures.
Per The Athletic’s Shams Charania, Durant will be missing Team USA’s exhibition matchup against Canada and will probably suit up against Australia on July 15, 2024.
Before flying to Paris for the Olympic games, Team USA will also play against Serbia, South Sudan, and Germany, to complete their five-game exhibition campaign.
Team USA will quickly be put to the test as they battle Nikola Jokic and the Serbian national team in their first game of the Olympics on July 28, 2024.
As of now, no specific timetable has been put out if when will Durant return and play with the squad’s intense 5-on-5 scrimmages.
From the start of their training camp, Team USA already put on the work and engaged in a series of friendly scrimmage games against the younger selection of players in the US.
Durant will still have three weeks to go back to optimum condition and is expected to play his role as one of the team’s main scorers.
Already 35 years of age, Durant is seeking to cement his name in the Team USA history book as the first player to win four Olympic gold medals.
