Jannik Sinner dominates Richard Gasquet to nab a third-round French Open seat

Jannik Sinner continued his high-level performance in the ongoing French Open after sweeping one of the few remaining veterans in the tournament, Richard Gasquet- 6.4, 6.2, 6.4- on May 30, 2024, in Paris, France.

Fresh off a demolition exhibition on Christopher Eubanks in the first round of the Grand Slam tournament, Sinner came out firing against Gasquet and capped off the win with another 3-0 outing.

The former Australian Open Grand Slam champion raced to a quick sizable lead after holding all of his service possessions in the opening set.

Backstopped by his baseline hitting prowess and immense power, Sinner just proved to be too much for Gasquet as his forehand bombs just touched the line at will.

Aside from his signature offense, Sinner’s net defense was also blockbuster in the second round as he neutralized Gasquet’s backhand winner attempts with his stop balls in the no man’s land.

It was a worse set for Gasquet in the second frame after being broken by Sinner in his first two service possessions.

Midway through the second, Sinner once again went beast mode and tallied three straight down-the-line winners that energized his fans in Roland Garros.

Gasquet attempted to alter the pace of the match in the third set after delivering more slice spins that slowed down the tempo of their rallies.

However, Sinner didn’t go with the flow and attacked the ball in the middle that landed on Gasquet’s wide side for more points.

In just three sets, Sinner dominated the offensive department after clinching 98 total points won while also scoring five break points.

Sinner will look to sustain his stellar campaign in the French Open today, as he is set to square off against Pavel Kotov of Russia in the third round of the Grand Slam tourney.
