Guimaras to field almost 400 athletes for WVRAA meet 2024, hopes for better finish

The Province of Guimaras is gearing up for the 2024 Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet that will be held in Negros Occidental on May 2-7.
The Provincial Government of Guimaras has allocated Php 7.6 million for the entire delegation of the province.
The amount will cover the training expenses, food, uniforms, and sports equipment of the athletes that will represent the island province to the regional sports tilt.
Ms. Jesa Obligar, Education Program Supervisor for MAPEH of the Department of Education – Guimaras said that they will field 392 athletes for the WVRAA Meet this year.
Contrary to previous years, Obligar said that this year, Guimaras will participate in all sporting events at the WVRAA Meet thus, the increase number of athletes to be sent to the competition.
Governor JC Rahman Nava expressed support for the Guimaras delegation and challenged the athletes to improve their performance.
The governor hopes that Guimaras will surpass its achievement in last year’s WVRAA where the province placed fifth in the overall medal tally.
The province also took home special awards that include Best in Uniform, Best in Saludo, and Most Festive Delegation.
