Guimaras’ livestock production up by 1.45% in 2022

The volume of livestock production in Guimaras increased by 1.45% in 2022 at 5,683.30 metric tons from 5,601.99 metric tons produced in 2021.
The major contributor to the growth was hog production, according to data released by the Philippine Statistics Authority.
“Comparing 2021 and 2022 livestock production, Hogs grew by 3.89% while Carabao, Cattle, and Goats decreased in production by 9.8 percent, 5.82 percent, and 2.49 percent, respectively,” Provincial Statistics Officer Nelida B. Losare said.
For five comparative years, the total volume of livestock production declined consecutively from 6,403.46 metric tons in 2018 to 5,747.31 metric tons in 2019 (-10.25%), to 5,555.14 metric tons in 2020 (-3.34%).
Hog remained the top contributor to the total livestock production in Guimaras, contributing 73.66% on the average of the provincial total. Cattle followed with a 20.47% contribution.
“The pandemic year (2020), recorded the least volume of production at 5,555.14 MT tons, and for the last two years (2021-2022), the province gradually recovered as reflected in the continual increase in the total volume of livestock production with 5,601.99 metric tons and 5,683.30 metric tons, respectively,” Losare said.
