Barotac Viejo opens first OTOP Hub in Iloilo district
BAROTAC VIEJO, Iloilo — The Department of Trade and Industry’s Iloilo Provincial Office and the Barotac Viejo municipal government launched a One Town, One Product Hub on Aug. 11.
Mayor Nielo “Bongbong” C. Tupas and DTI Iloilo officer in charge and Provincial Director Ma. Dorita D. Chavez signed a memorandum of agreement formally opening the facility.
Located in Barangay Poblacion, the facility is the first OTOP Hub in Iloilo’s fifth district and the fifth established in the province.
The hub will provide local entrepreneurs and artisans with a venue to market and promote their products while showcasing Barotac Viejo’s culture, creativity and identity.
It will also support the “Go Lokal, Buy Lokal” campaign by encouraging consumers to patronize locally made products.
The OTOP program helps micro, small and medium enterprises improve their products, expand market access and develop goods and services rooted in their communities’ culture, resources and creativity. The program was institutionalized in 2023 through Republic Act 11960.
DTI Iloilo and the municipal government said the hub reflects their partnership in creating opportunities for local businesses and supporting sustainable economic growth.
The two agencies remain committed to empowering entrepreneurs, promoting homegrown products and helping MSMEs reach broader markets.
