French football star Kylian Mbappe to miss 2024 Paris Olympics

French football ace Kylian Mbappe will not participate in the upcoming Paris Olympics, confirmed on June 17, 2024.

Despite the chance to win the prestigious Olympic title in front of his home fans in France, Mbappe announced that due to his transfer from Paris Saint-Germain to Real Madrid, his previous plans have to be set aside.

Since the Olympics is not included on FIFA’s calendar, participating clubs aren’t required to release their players.

“My club’s (Real Madrid) position was very clear, so from that moment on, I think I won’t be taking part in the Games,” Mbappe said.

During the buildup for the French national team for the Olympics, Mbappe expressed his desire to play for Les Bleus.

According to Mbappe, representing France will always be one of his priorities. However, his recent signing with Real Madrid derailed his set plans with head coach Thierry Henry.

If Mbappe had been on the official playing roster, he would have formed a talented pool together with Alexandre Lacazette and Jean-Philippe Mateta.

“Joining a new team in September would not be the best way to begin my adventure. I wish the best to the France team. I will of course watch all their games as a spectator rather than an actor, and I hope they bring back the gold medal,” Mbappe added.

Aside from Mbappe, the French national football team will also be without Mathys Tel, Maxime Esteve, Bradley Barcola, Lucas Chevalier, Leny Yoro, and Bafode Diakite.
