Acclaimed New Zealand indie pop duo Foley share the video for their explosive new single “Suckerpunch” out October 1st, alongside their highly anticipated debut tour of Korea — marking the band’s first time performing in East Asia.
Following the critical acclaim of their recent album ‘That’s Life, Baby!’ and features across Triple J, Rolling Stone, Ones To Watch and Noctis Magazine, the multi-instrumentalist team of Ash Wallace and Gabriel Everett are set to captivate Korean audiences with their boundary-pushing pop sound that draws inspiration from forward-thinking artists like Caroline Polachek, Charli XCX, and Remi Wolf.
“Suckerpunch” finds the Auckland-based duo exploring themes of resilient romanticism with their signature gritty, danceable approach. “So happy to share our new track Suckerpunch – it’s about a hopeless romantic seeking love everywhere, being hit with unexpected breakups, but getting straight back up and doing it all over again,” explains the band. “For someone who is determined to find real and passionate love – it’s worth the suckerpunch.”
The Korean tour represents a long-awaited connection with their dedicated fanbase across the region. “We’re SO excited to be playing South Korea!” says Foley. “It’s been a long time coming since we released our song Cola back in 2019 and discovered so many of our Korean fans! Can’t wait to explore such a beautiful country and try new foods and experiences. Bring it on!”
The tour kicks off with performances at Seoul’s prestigious Zandari Festival from October 18-19, the country’s premiere showcase and conference festival. Foley will also perform a special show with acclaimed New Zealand singer-songwriter Paige on October 24th in Seoul, before heading south for two additional performances with Australian pop singer Nat Vazer in Daegu (October 25th) and Busan (October 26th).
Known for their fearless live performances that toe the line between pop and alternative music, Foley bring extra thrill through their commitment to truly live performance. “We’re performers at heart, it doesn’t feel right to be playing with only a perfectly timed backing track,” they explain. “If we’re on the edge of our seats then the audience will be too…elements they haven’t heard are flying at them all the time and it could all collapse in a second – but it doesn’t.”
The duo’s innovative approach has earned them three Aotearoa Music Award nominations alongside two APRA Silver Scroll Awards, with previous tours supporting Remi Wolf and performances with Tove Lo, Still Woozy, BENEE, Two Door Cinema Club, and Flight Facilities cementing their reputation as one of New Zealand’s most exciting pop exports.
With their gritty, dance-able sound and fearless approach to pop music, Foley arrive in Korea as fully formed contenders ready to make their mark on the East Asian music scene.
