GUIMARAS — The Philippine Statistics Authority Guimaras Provincial Statistical Office joined the nationwide observance of the 2026 National Refugee Day through Blue Monday and advocacy campaigns on June 22.
The activity was held in line with Presidential Proclamation No. 265, series of 2023, which declares June 20 of every year as National Refugee Day in the Philippines.
The observance sought to raise awareness of the plight of refugees, asylum-seekers, stateless persons, and internally displaced individuals while promoting compassion, inclusion, and solidarity among government employees and stakeholders.
PSA Guimaras personnel wore blue attire to show support for refugees and the global humanitarian cause.
Advocacy materials from concerned agencies were displayed in strategic areas within the office premises.
The activity was also posted on the official Facebook page and PSA website of PSO Guimaras.
The informational materials highlighted the significance of National Refugee Day, refugees’ rights and welfare, and the importance of building an inclusive and supportive community for displaced populations.
During the flag ceremony, Chief Statistical Specialist Nelida B. Losare emphasized the importance of the observance.
“Through this activity, we hope to raise awareness among our employees, stakeholders, and the public about the challenges faced by refugees and the importance of fostering a more compassionate and inclusive community.”
National Refugee Day aligns with the global observance of World Refugee Day, which the United Nations marks every June 20 to honor people forced to flee conflict, violence, or persecution.
PSA Guimaras said the activity reflected its commitment to supporting national initiatives that promote human rights, dignity, and social responsibility.
The office said the initiative also underscored its commitment to promoting understanding, inclusion, and solidarity with displaced populations.
The activity was carried out in accordance with the issued advisory and contributed to the nationwide commemoration of the 2026 National Refugee Day.
