The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) highlighted the accomplishments of its Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) during the three-day 2025 Alunsina: Kabuhayan Convention and Bazaar held from September 16 to 18 at the Iloilo Provincial Capitol.
The event provided a national platform for SLP participants to showcase their products, services, and best practices, highlighting the program’s role in uplifting Filipino communities.
Participants from Regions I to XIII, the National Capital Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, and the Negros Island Region displayed a wide variety of products, ranging from food and handicrafts to innovative services.
The event emphasized how the SLP strengthens individuals’ and associations’ capacities to build sustainable livelihoods, fostering economic empowerment across the country.
Inspired by Alunsina, the Visayan goddess of change and prosperity, the convention embodies the program’s mission to foster transformation and opportunity.
“The SLP continues to provide assistance and opportunities to elevate the socio-economic condition of individuals and communities,” said DSWD Assistant Secretary for Promotive Programs Edmon Monteverde.
“It empowers participants and associations to establish sustainable livelihoods,” he added.
Marife Leon, Director IV of the SLP National Program Management Office, highlighted the decade-long impact of the program.
“SLP has been a steadfast support for vulnerable families, providing capital and skills to start, sustain, and grow long-term livelihoods,” she said.
“Today is not only a celebration of their successes but also recognition of their dedication and hard work,” Leon added.
“Events like Alunsina open doors for participants to reach wider markets and gain broader opportunities,” she said.
Joselito Estember, DSWD Western Visayas OIC regional director, encouraged attendees to support the participants.
“Every purchase you make is not just an act of support—it is a direct investment in the lives of our beneficiaries, their families, and their future,” he said.
The accompanying Gawad Sulong awards recognized exemplary participants, celebrating the dedication and innovation that continue to transform lives across the country.
Through the convention and bazaar, the SLP not only promotes products and services but also reinforces the values of resilience, collaboration, and community empowerment.
