Djokovic survives Musetti in five sets to enter French Open’s 4th round

Novak Djokovic showcased his champion’s heart by defeating Lorenzo Musetti in five thrilling sets—7-5, 6-7, 2-6, 6-3, 6-0—to advance to the fourth round of the French Open on June 2, 2024.

In a nerve-wracking showdown lasting almost five hours, Djokovic rallied from a 1-2 set deficit to complete an emphatic reverse sweep in the final two sets.

A slow start hampered by weather conditions disrupted his service rhythm and baseline angles, leading to an early warning and a time violation for the Serbian superstar.

Djokovic managed to control his emotions and secure a momentum-building first set win.

However, Musetti countered with impressive shot-making in sets two and three, producing down-the-line winners and drop shots that seemed to favor him for nearly two hours.

In the final two sets, Djokovic found another gear. He minimized unforced errors with safe topspin balls in the fourth set and began to dominate with his powerful forehand, pushing Musetti back to the baseline.

Djokovic’s improved service game in the crucial moments sealed his victory.

Despite the loss, world No. 30 Musetti gave Djokovic a significant challenge on the clay court.

Djokovic will next face Francisco Cerundolo in the fourth round of the French Open today at 5 p.m.
