The Gervonta Davis-Vasiliy Lomachenko lightweight mega bout will be eyed to kick off this November, multiple sources confirmed on July 11, 2024.
After Founder and CEO of Top Rank promotions Bob Arum bared that negotiations for a possible unification showdown between the two pound-for-pound superstars already started last month, reports then surfaced that the fight will be targeted to attract fans in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand or T-Mobile Arena.
Last June 20, 2024, Arum publicly announced that the Top Rank management would meet with Davis’ camp to discuss the terms and conditions of the contract.
Although an update if both camps really met and sat down for a talk wasn’t confirmed, Arum revealed that a series of ongoing negotiations helped materialize their expected accomplishment reports.
During the last six years, Lomachenko was always hunting for Davis, but the latter took a different route and fought the likes of Leo Santa Cruz, Mario Barrios, Isaac Cruz, and Ryan Garcia.
It was just after his fight with Frank Martin that Davis publicly aired his desire to square off with Lomachenko to unify the lightweight division.
Davis is coming off another knockout win last June 16, 2024, after taking down the resilient Martin in eight rounds.
Meanwhile, Lomachenko is also fresh from a convincing win last May after stopping George Kambosos Jr. in the 11th round of their IBF title clash.
“Everything’s up in the air. There’s a lot of possibilities. And possibilities are good, because they keep everyone busy. When we sit down, we will see if it’s feasible, but Lomachenko would like to do that fight,” said Arum.
