Asia’s Romantic Balladeer Christian Bautista and Indonesian superstar Raisa have joined forces for a powerful cross-border duet of Rainbow, a timeless OPM classic now reimagined for a new generation.
Released under Sony Music Entertainment, the collaborative single is a fresh take on South Border’s beloved ballad, blending soulful pop-R&B textures with stirring vocal performances that span two of Southeast Asia’s most admired voices.
“Rainbow is one of those songs that’s always stayed with me,” said Bautista. “It resonates deeply, not just in the Philippines, but also in Indonesia. Working on it with Raisa gave it new energy and meaning, and it felt right to share it in this way now.”
Raisa, one of Indonesia’s most celebrated singer-songwriters, echoed the sentiment.
“Simply because I love this song—I grew up with this song—and I didn’t even know at first that it was a Filipino artist who sang it!” she shared. “It has such a special meaning—not just about love but about life. It’s a reassurance of rainbow after the rain.”
With lush production, delicate key shifts, and tightly woven harmonies, Rainbow delivers a stripped-back yet emotionally charged arrangement that remains faithful to the original while introducing a fresh dual-language sensibility.
The collaboration was sparked by a 13-city ASEAN concert series in Japan, where both artists performed and formed a friendship grounded in mutual admiration and a shared love for ballads.
“We got along very well as friends and as performers during that time,” Bautista recalled. “We talked about the songs we both loved, and Rainbow stood out for both of us. That’s when everything started to fall into place.”
“Christian is already so big in Indonesia—I grew up listening to him,” Raisa added. “He’s such a great balladeer and vocalist. When the idea to collaborate came up, of course, I said yes.”
Both artists emphasized the emotional integrity they aimed to preserve throughout the process.
“With a timeless song like this, you really shouldn’t do too much,” Raisa explained. “We kept the arrangement close to the original but adjusted it to fit a male-female duet—some key changes, harmonies, and little details. Every step of the way, we made sure we honored the song.”
Bautista added, “We both give our all in every performance, but we also know when to step back and let the other shine. That balance was key in making this rendition emotionally captivating and honest.”
While the chemistry between their voices is evident, the artists admitted the process wasn’t without challenges.
“The biggest challenge was time,” Raisa said. “We recorded together but couldn’t finish at the same time due to our tight schedules, so we had to complete parts separately. That’s hard for a duet—you have to match details like vibrato, phrasing…”
Despite logistical hurdles, the final track achieves a seamless blend of voices and cultures, thanks in part to a binational team of Filipino and Indonesian producers and arrangers.
Bautista—who remains a household name in both the Philippines and Indonesia through his chart-topping hits and television appearances—described the project as a gift for fans across the region.
“This has been a long-awaited collaboration for many of our fans across the region,” he said. “It feels incredibly special—not just for us, but for everyone who’s supported our music. We’re truly grateful to Sony Music for helping bring it to life.”
Raisa, whose signature style fuses emotional nuance with contemporary pop polish, sees Rainbow as her gateway to reaching more Filipino listeners.
“I’ve never tapped into that market before, and I want to expand my reach,” she said. “I hope the Filipino audience will welcome me.”
The pair is already planning joint performances and a music video.
“We’re currently planning joint performances and a music video,” Bautista teased. “This isn’t the end: it’s a continuation of a musical bridge between the Philippines and Indonesia.”
“I certainly hope so,” added Raisa. “This song will truly come to life when performed in person. When you collaborate with a dear friend, it’s always more fun to do things together. It makes the experience that much more soulful.”
As of August 2025, Rainbow is streaming on all major platforms globally, with downloads typically priced between PHP 25–50 depending on the platform.
With the release of Rainbow, Christian Bautista and Raisa not only pay tribute to a beloved OPM classic but also open a new chapter for Southeast Asian musical collaboration—where timeless emotion transcends borders.
