Carl Tamayo set to take hoops talent to the Korean Basketball League

Carl Tamayo is ready to embark on a new chapter in his international basketball career after signing with the Changwon LG Sakers on June 5, 2024.

With the recent turn of events, Tamayo will officially leave the Japan B. League and will make his debut in the Korean Basketball League, where the LG Sakers are currently playing in.

It was Changwon that officially announced Tamayo’s arrival after posting several graphic updates in their various social media platforms.

As early as January 19, 2024, Tamayo and his B. League mother franchise Ryukyu Golden Kings already agreed to mutually part ways.

According to Ryukyu, it was a difficult decision to let Tamayo go but both camps mutually agreed in the decision that was finalized midway in the season.

“Taking into consideration both the current team situation and the lack of sufficient playing time for Carl, both parties mutually agreed that proceeding with a contract termination is best for the team and Carl ‘s future basketball career,” wrote Ryukyu.

During his rookie season last year, Tamayo only logged in a playing time of 7.8 minutes per game while averaging 2.5 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 0.3 assists.

His sophomore season showed no difference as the Golden Kings only deployed Tamayo 12.5 minutes per game while averaging 3.9 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 0.6 assists.

As of now, the LG Sakers are yet to create Tamayo’s definite designated minutes per game but one thing is for sure, the KBL squad will be needing his ability to stretch the floor with his three-point shooting as well as his post-up prowess.
