Team Buenavista emerged as the champion of the 2nd Invitational GUIMELCO One-Day Basketball League, part of the “GAME FOR LIGHT” program held on May 30, 2024, at MCO Hall in San Miguel, Jordan, Guimaras.
The event, celebrating the 45th Founding Anniversary of the cooperative, featured teams from the municipalities of Buenavista, Jordan, Nueva Valencia, Sibunag, San Lorenzo, and GUIMELCO, supported by their respective District MCO Organizations.
The league aimed to foster collaboration and friendship among Member-Consumer-Owners (MCOs) through sports and promote health and wellness.
GUIMELCO General Manager Shirley S. Laurente highlighted that the basketball league is not just about showcasing skill, strength, and strategy but is a vital part of GUIMELCO’s health and wellness program.
“Through this initiative, we aim to provide a healthy and active lifestyle among our employees and our valued Member-Consumer-Owners,” she said in her opening remarks.
Mr. Neil E. Palencia, Sports Committee Chairperson, led the oath of sportsmanship, and Engr. Dennis de la Cruz read the rules of the game.
Teams from San Lorenzo and Jordan secured the first and second runner-up positions, respectively.
