BIR collections top PHP 2 trillion through July 2026
QUEZON CITY — The Bureau of Internal Revenue collected PHP 2.003 trillion from January through July 2026, exceeding its PHP 1.990 trillion target for the period by PHP 13.53 billion, or 0.68%.
The seven-month total was PHP 102.60 billion higher than the collection in the same period last year, representing year-over-year growth of 5.4%.
BIR Commissioner Charlito Martin R. Mendoza said the bureau had collected about 60% of its full-year target for 2026, reflecting improving taxpayer compliance and sustained collection efforts by its Revenue Regions, Revenue District Offices and Large Taxpayers Service.
The government’s revised 2026 collection target for the BIR is PHP 3.393 trillion.
“We remain guided by the President’s directive to make government services more accessible to taxpayers, and by Secretary Frederick Go’s direction to make tax administration fairer and more efficient for businesses and investors,” he added.
Gross collections reached PHP 358.44 billion in July, exceeding the PHP 336.07 billion monthly target by PHP 22.37 billion, or 6.66%.
July collections were PHP 19.41 billion higher than in the same month last year, reflecting year-over-year growth of 5.73%.
“These results show that better taxpayer service, clearer rules, and effective enforcement can support stronger compliance and collection,” Mendoza said.
The bureau continues to pursue its five-point reform agenda, known as BIR DARES.
The agenda covers digital and data transformation, audit reform and accountability, revenue collection and base protection, employee empowerment and welfare promotion, and service excellence and stakeholder engagement.
Through the agenda, the bureau is simplifying tax rules and processes, expanding digital services, improving taxpayer assistance, strengthening audit safeguards and enforcing tax laws against deliberate noncompliance.
The reforms are part of the BIR’s broader effort to improve compliance while protecting the government’s revenue base.
“We will continue helping taxpayers comply correctly and on time, while making sure that taxes properly due are collected fairly and efficiently,” Mendoza said.
