Ten creative writers from West Visayas and two other regions have been named fellows of the 22nd San Agustin Writers Workshop, which will be held at the Fray Luis de Leon Learning Commons, Learning Resource Center, University of San Agustin on January 19-21, 2026.
The writing fellows are, for FICTION: John Eric Geromiano (Kinaray-a), Roosevelt Elementary School; Keft Sobredo (Hiligaynon), Maersk; and Al Ryanne G. Gatcho (English), Hunan Institute of Science and Technology. For POETRY: Kristin Joseff R. Gagajena (English), University of San Agustin; Albert Gerald Palmares (English), Iloilo Doctors’ Hospital; and Cybelle Rio Jhane Hembra (Filipino), West Visayas State University. For CREATIVE NONFICTION: Leigh Gabrielle Marie T. Vacio (Kinaray-a), University of the Philippines Visayas; John Frederic C. Bugayong (Hiligaynon), St. Paul University Iloilo; and Michael Caesar Tubal (English), West Visayas State University. For DRAMA: Angel Marie Penano (Filipino), University of the Philippines Visayas.
The workshop panel is composed of Palanca-award-winning writers and critics, namely, John Iremil Teodoro, Isidoro M. Cruz, Noel G. de Leon, Dulce Maria V. Deriada, Early Sol A. Gadong, and Elvie Victonette B. Razon-Gonzalez. Eric C. Divinagracia serves as the expert panelist for drama.
S.E.A. Write Awardee John Iremil Teodoro, Ph.D. is the founding workshop director. This year’s workshop director is Noel G. de Leon. May Anne T. Jaro, Ph.D., serves as project director. Isidoro M. Cruz, Ph.D., recipient of the 2025 Gawad Pambansang Alagad ni Balagtas for Literary Criticism in English, serves as deputy project director. In charge of the Secretariat is Jose Anthony Gerard V. Muyco. The annual workshop is conducted under the supervision of Nenelyn D. de la Fuente, Ph.D., Dean of the College of Liberal Arts, Sciences, and Education.
The workshop opens on January 19 with the launching and presentation of eight books by Augustinians and alumni of the San Agustin Writers Workshop.
