Carlos Yulo put on a spectacular show in the 53rd All-Japan Seniors Gymnastics Championship and managed to win the bronze medal against top-tier opponents in Gunma, Japan.
The Tokyo Olympics bound Filipino gymnast had his first competition since the 2019 Southeast Asian Games and is just trying to gain back his rhythm.
Due to almost four months of inactivity because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Yulo and his team had to double things up and tightened their preparations for the incoming 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
A part of their intensive preparations is joining several side tournaments to get Yulo loose and their resumption of training paid off after landing third against the other top gymnasts.
Yulo registered a score of 14.733 in the men’s vault apparatus while the champion, Wataru Kanigawa, had 14.900.
The prized PH gymnast is expected to join more international gymnastics competition and is yet to reach top form after he and his coaching camp had only almost two months of practice since resumption.
