Who would’ve thought that a team fresh off a championship qualification would go through a sabbatical?
One of the most consistent franchises to have joined the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) will undergo an unexpected leave of absence, as announced on April 28, 2026.
It was fun seeing you compete, Cignal!
In an official statement posted on social media by the franchise, Cignal confirmed that it will no longer field the Super Spikers when the upcoming PVL conference kicks off.
“This is to officially announce that the Cignal Super Spikers Women’s Volleyball Team has filed a leave of absence in the Premier Volleyball League,” the franchise wrote on its official Facebook page.
With the recent move, the Super Spikers became the fourth franchise in the PVL to go on a leave of absence, following F2 Logistics, Chery Tiggo, and Petro Gazz.
Before taking a pause from the competitive pro scene, the Super Spikers had established themselves as one of the most consistent podium finishers in the PVL.
Since officially securing the license to join the PVL in 2021, Cignal immediately took the league by storm and collected eight podium finishes across 15 conferences.
Their best conference campaign came during the 2025 PVL On Tour, where they won gold, led by outside hitter Erika Santos, who was crowned the Most Valuable Player (MVP).
Recently, they were one step shy of securing the title after entering the championship stage in the 2026 PVL All-Filipino Conference, but the Creamline Cool Smashers proved to be too much, sweeping them in the grand finals, 2-0.
“The difficult decision was taken after careful review of Cignal’s strategic decision,” Cignal wrote.
“Our deepest thanks go out to the players, coaches, and staff who have poured their hearts into this team over the years.”
