Twenty-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer will treat millions of tennis fans with his exhibition return at the upcoming US Open on Aug. 25, 2026.
Five months since his last appearance at the inaugural opening ceremony of the Australian Open, the “Swiss Maestro” is returning with a bang and is set to headline the exhibition event, “Roger Federer: An Icon Returns to New York.”
According to US Open organizers, Federer will play a doubles match alongside legends Andy Roddick, Andre Agassi, and John McEnroe.
“The US Open has always been one of the most special tournaments for me,” Federer said.
“So many unforgettable moments of my career happened in New York, and Arthur Ashe Stadium is a place that means a great deal to me.”
Since turning professional in 1998, Federer has won five of his Grand Slam titles at the US Open and remains the only male player in the Open era to win five consecutive trophies in New York.
Federer’s historic campaign started in 2004, when he defeated Lleyton Hewitt, followed by four more Grand Slam final wins against Agassi, Roddick, Novak Djokovic, and Andy Murray.
The Swiss ace had the chance to extend his streak the year after, but Juan Martin del Potro played spoiler, outlasting Federer in five grueling sets, 6-3, 6-7, 6-4, 6-7, 2-6, in nearly five hours of intense tennis action.
Before accepting the US Open event, Federer had only limited exhibition appearances and was still busy promoting his On Cloud brand through promotional visits.
“To return to Arthur Ashe and share the evening with Andy, Andre, and John makes it even more meaningful. I’m looking forward to celebrating those memories, seeing the fans again, and enjoying a very special night together,” Federer added.
