BACOLOD CITY — A 36-year-old woman is recuperating in a hospital after she was stabbed 63 times by her American husband at their home in Barangay Pinucauan, Vallehermoso, Negros Oriental, on Thursday.
Initial police investigation showed that the suspect had just arrived at their residence from Bacolod City when a heated argument erupted between him and his wife inside their bedroom.
The argument escalated into a violent confrontation, during which the suspect allegedly assaulted the victim and armed himself with a bladed weapon, which he used to stab her multiple times on different parts of her body.
Police said the suspect also broke a jalousie window and used the shattered glass to inflict additional injuries on the victim, while sustaining a cut on his own wrist.
When responding officers arrived, several bystanders were reportedly in a state of panic and pointed authorities to the couple’s residence.
Police Capt. Stephen Polinar, spokesperson for the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office, said officers attempted to negotiate with the suspect, but he initially resisted.
Due to the urgency of the situation, police forcibly entered the bedroom, where they found the victim unconscious and soaked in blood, while the suspect eventually surrendered to authorities.
The victim was first brought to the Vallehermoso Rural Health Unit and later transferred to San Carlos Doctors Hospital for further medical treatment.
Polinar said investigators have already spoken with the victim, but the cause of the couple’s argument has yet to be determined.
Police said the investigation is ongoing for the possible filing of appropriate charges.
