BACOLOD CITY — A 36-year-old woman died in a hospital on Friday, a day after she was stabbed 63 times by her foreign husband during a domestic violence incident at their home in Barangay Pinucauan, Vallehermoso, Negros Oriental, on Jan. 29.
Police Capt. Stephen Polinar, spokesperson of the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office, confirmed the victim’s death, which occurred at about 9 p.m. on Jan. 30.
Polinar said parricide charges have been filed against the victim’s 40-year-old American husband.
Police investigation showed the suspect allegedly assaulted the victim after they figured in a heated argument inside their house.
Authorities said the motive for the argument remains under investigation.
Investigators said the suspect repeatedly stabbed the victim with a bladed weapon, broke a window jalousie, and used the broken glass to inflict additional injuries on his wife, including slashing her wrist.
Police responded to the incident and negotiated the suspect’s surrender, after which he was taken into custody.
Authorities are also checking the suspect’s background as part of the ongoing investigation.
Parricide is a nonbailable offense under Philippine law when evidence of guilt is strong, and convictions may carry penalties of reclusion perpetua.
