BACOLOD CITY — The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology–Negros Island Region (BJMP-NIR) reported its third incident since December involving jail visitors found with illegal drugs during visitation.
The latest case involved a 31-year-old woman who was intercepted with a sachet of suspected shabu valued at PHP 6,800 while visiting her live-in partner at the Metro Bacolod District Jail (MBDJ) Male Dormitory Annex in Barangay Handumanan on Saturday.
Police identified the suspect as “Che-Che,” a resident of Barangay 30 in Bacolod City.
During frisking, a jail officer noticed a protruding object in Che-Che’s left pocket and instructed her to remove it, after which the contraband fell out.
The officer immediately informed the jail warden and sought police assistance.
Police Capt. Genus David, head of Police Station 10, said the suspect denied ownership of the recovered contraband.
David said Che-Che was arrested for possession of dangerous drugs three years ago, while her live-in partner was apprehended in a drug bust last year.
Police are preparing to file drug charges against Che-Che.
BJMP-NIR said the incident followed earlier cases in December at the Negros Occidental District Jail in Bago City and the Talisay City Jail.
Jail Chief Insp. Juniven Rey Umadhay, BJMP-NIR spokesperson, said the bureau continues to intensify security to prevent illegal drugs from entering jail facilities and to protect the welfare of persons deprived of liberty.
