A CONSTRUCTION worker was arrested late morning of July 3, 2019 after he was caught growing marijuana plants.
Marcelino Nacino, 40, allegedly cultivated the plants in a pot at his backyard at Barangay Colon, Malay, Aklan.
Police Major Jess Baylon, Malay police chief, said the discovery of the marijuana plants was merely incidental.
Nacino was acussed of violation of Republic Act 9262 or the “Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004.”
Members of Malay Police Sub-Station 5 were called to respond following the complaint of Nacion’s wife that the suspect was physically assaulting her. That was the time they stumbled on the marijuana plants.
The six potted marijuana plants were around 3-feet high.
Baylon said Nacino is not on their watchlist of illegal drug personalities.
It was believed that he was growing cannabis for personal consumption.
Nacino underwent a drug test afterwards.
MAN STABBED DEAD
Meanwhile, a 34-year-old man died in a stabbing altercation Wednesday morning in Passi City, Iloilo.
Allan Paderna, a resident of Barangay Quinagaringan Pequeño, Passi City, succumbed to injuries on his chest, back, and hand.
He died at the West Visayas State University Medical Center in Jaro, Iloilo City.
Police Executive Master Sergeant Noel Bernard, Passi City PNP Chief Executive Senior Police Officer (CESPO), said the suspect, Jonel Pagdato, 30, of Batangas Gines, Passi City, was arrested after the incident.
Bernabe noted that Paderna and Pagdato, a butcher, are relatives but both harbored ill feelings against other.
The incident happened 6:45 a.m. of Wednesday when they met at Gines village.
Pagdato was allegedly on board a pick-up while Paderna was driving a motorcycle.
A heated altercation ensued between the two until they traded punches.
Shortly later, the suspect ran to his pick-up, took his butcher’s knife and attached the victim.
