THE World Boxing Organization (WBO) issued a letter this weekend mandating the rematch between two Negros Occidental fighters WBO world super flyweight champion Donnie Nietes of Murcia and Aston Palicte of Bago City.
According to Michael Aldeguer of ALA Boxing Promotions, Nietes wants bigger fights with big names in the competition.
“The two have 15 days to agree to fight. But we don’t want two Filipinos fighting for a world title,” he added.
Both Negrense boxers fought in September 2018 at The Forum in Inglewood, California, in the United States, which ended in a split draw.
Meanwhile, Roy Jones Jr. (RJJ) Boxing Promotions, which manages Palicte, is looking forward to a rematch.
“I will start the process on making a deal with Nietes people,” said RJJ Boxing CEO/Co-Founder Keith Veltre. “Were looking forward to seeing Aston become world champion.”
Palicte earned the right to face Nietes after defeating Puerto Rican fighter Jose Martinez following a second round stoppage in their World Boxing Organization (WBO) super flyweight eliminator at the Viejas Casino and Resort in Alpine, California Feb. 3.
