Venus Williams aims for sixth Wimbledon title at the age of 43

A legend will be making her way back into the grass court.

After battling a hamstring injury since the first month of the year, seven-time Grand Slam women’s champion Venus Williams is ready to compete again in the biggest stage of tennis at the age of 43 years old after confirming her participation in London, England.

Williams was one of the seven players who received a wildcard ticket to Wimbledon and was already seen training on the grass court last June 28, 2023.

The five-time Wimbledon queen underwent a warm-up participation in the Birmingham Classic one week ago and was able to reach the Round of 16 before falling to Jelena Ostapenko in three close sets.

Despite a one-year absence on the grass surface, Williams still had the credentials to prove that she can still perform at the highest level of tennis.

Aside from her five Grand Slams in Wimbledon, Williams also dominated the US Open twice and was the former no.1 female tennis player last February 25, 2002.

However, Williams wasn’t able to sustain her top play after being hobbled by several injuries which led to her decline in the women’s division.

Her sister Serena eventually took over her reigns and is now the all-time leading Grand Slam winner with 23 titles under her belt.

The tournament bracketing and seeding are yet to be determined as the qualifying stage is yet to end in a couple of days.

Whether Williams will be pulling off a major advancement or dropping in the early rounds, it will still be an honor to watch a former champion play again at the age of 43.
