ILOILO CITY — Two men were killed in a shooting incident early Sunday morning, Oct. 25, in the City Proper district of Iloilo City.
Police identified the victims as alias “Angelito,” 35, a construction worker from Barangay Osorio 2, San Remigio, Antique, and alias “Condrad,” 38, a vendor from Zone 6, Barangay Sto. Rosario-Duran, City Proper.
Reports said Condrad was drinking with friends when the shooting occurred at around 2 a.m. Sunday.
A witness claimed that Condrad went near a parked vehicle to urinate shortly before the incident.
It was at that moment when the suspect, identified only as Anthony, a 36-year-old truck driver from Barangay Sto. Rosario-Duran, allegedly shot Condrad.
The suspect then allegedly fired several more shots, hitting the construction worker, who was about to buy fish balls from a nearby kiosk.
Anthony immediately fled on foot.
Both victims were rushed to St. Paul’s Hospital in Iloilo City.
However, Condrad was declared dead on arrival, while the construction worker died shortly afterward.
Police Capt. Melchor Tolentino, chief of Iloilo City Police Station 1, said the suspect was eventually arrested during a hot pursuit operation at around 3:20 a.m.
Anthony claimed he opened fire after allegedly noticing two men following him while he and his child were on their way home.
However, witnesses contradicted his account, claiming that the suspect approached the group while Condrad and his friends were drinking.
They said Anthony was even invited to join the group.
The suspect reportedly went home briefly before returning and opening fire.
Police have yet to establish the motive behind the shooting.
Tolentino confirmed that Anthony had previously been reported for alleged illegal drug use.
The suspect was also reportedly linked to theft incidents in the area.
