After his championship stint with the Mighty Sports PH in the recently concluded Dubai tournament, UP Fighting Maroon versatile forward Javi Gomez de Liaño announced that he will not play for UP in the upcoming UAAP season 83.
Being chosen as one of the players for the 2023 Gilas pool, Javi decided to focus more on his player development stating that he wants this year to be more on his personal growth as a player.
Also, Javi expressed his interest in joining the MPBL stating that the amateur league is a good stepping stone for his career and would allow him to experience the speed and strength of much tougher competition.
However, his brother, the lefty shooting guard star Juan Gomez de Liaño, still has not made his final decision on whether to go back to UP or test the waters in other leagues.
UP’s front-liners Ricci Rivero, Kobe Paras, and Bright Akhuetie already stated their commitment to return in Season 83 and will try to lead the Fighting Maroons to a title.
