BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — The decomposing body of an unidentified woman was found Sunday, Dec. 28, in a vacant lot with scattered garbage and tall grass in Purok Mars, Barangay Singcang-Airport.
Police Capt. Greeky Cayao, head of Police Station 8, said a streetlight installer discovered the remains about 1 p.m. after noticing a foul odor while looking for a place to urinate.
Cayao said the woman, believed to be in her 40s, was wearing a dark brown shirt and black skinny jeans.
He said police found no other significant items in the area aside from piles of empty sacks near the body, prompting investigators to consider the possibility that the woman may have been a scavenger.
Cayao said there were no signs of a struggle at the scene, but an autopsy is needed to determine the cause of death.
He said no missing-person reports have recently been filed at the station.
Cayao said he believes the woman may be from another area and may have been dead for more than a week.
