There was no need for another scoring explosion from Eli Rousseaux—only a breakout game from Trisha Tubu.
The powerful lefty fired 21 points to lift the Farm Fresh Foxies to a commanding 25-19, 25-20, 25-16 sweep of the Cignal Super Spikers in the PVL Reinforced Conference at the Araneta Coliseum on Thursday.
The victory marked more than just another win—it continued the Foxies’ stunning campaign, following their four-set triumph over the Nxled Chameleons to seize early control of Pool A in the 12-team, two-group tournament.
With Akari and ZUS Coffee also off to 2-0 starts in Pool B, Farm Fresh’s consecutive wins have brought newfound excitement to a conference that’s fast becoming a platform for breakout teams.
Sobrang saya namin kasi ito ang pinakamagandang start namin in any conference, said Tubu, who more than doubled her 10-point output from their opener by connecting on 19 of 32 attacks.
Still, she credited her teammates and their on-court composure for the win.
Mabibigat man ang kalaban, dapat ang mindset relax lang, she said. Lahat ng nahuhulog na bola, dapat gamitin.
“We knew it would be a difficult game because Cignal didn’t perform well previously, so we prepared for their reaction,” said Foxies head coach Alessandro Lodi.
While Rousseaux slowed down after her tournament-best 38 points in their first game, the Belgian import remained a steady force with 17 points and 11 excellent digs.
Ces Molina continued her strong debut campaign with 11 points and six receptions, while Rizza Cruz and Lorene Toring chipped in 11 combined points to keep the Foxies balanced.
Setter Alohi Robins-Hardy ran the offense with 24 excellent sets, including a final quick set to Riri Meneses—a former Cignal middle like Molina—for the match-clinching point in just one hour and 21 minutes.
Libero Alyssa Bertolano also stood out with 14 excellent digs and 10 receptions.
Farm Fresh outgunned Cignal in attacks, 52-34, tallied six blocks to Cignal’s three, and added four aces while surrendering only two.
The Foxies, however, still showed flaws in passing and reception, committing 16 errors while benefiting from 13 Cignal miscues.
The Super Spikers struggled again following a four-set loss to Choco Mucho on Monday, compounded by the absence of top scorer Vanie Gandler due to a minor injury.
“Not having Gandler is clearly a big help for us,” said Lodi. “But I always want to face the best lineups. Still, we focused on our side of the net and delivered a strong performance.”
Import Eva Chantava led Cignal with 13 points but got little support, with Ishie Lalongisip adding six and Jackie Acuña scoring three.
Tied at 9-all in Set 3, the Foxies unleashed a 9-2 run, capped by Tubu’s four straight points, before the rest of the squad wrapped up the win.
Farm Fresh looks to sustain its momentum against Capital1 next Tuesday at the Araneta Coliseum, while Cignal seeks to end its skid against unbeaten PLDT.
