The TNT Tropang Giga basketball franchise made it known what will their long-term Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) plan be regarding its roster.
After securing the services of former NLEX Road Warriors’ superstar forward Calvin Oftana, the Tropang Giga also made sure Jayson Castro isn’t going anywhere after signing him to a three-year contract extension.
The report was first released by Spin.ph and added that longtime agent Danny Espiritu confirmed that this is already Castro’s sixth successfully signed contract with the Tropang Giga.
Espiritu also said that Castro’s current contract will expire until August 2023 before being subject to renewal but the Tropang Giga management already offered the planned extension as early as possible.
Castro was drafted by the Tropang Giga franchise last 2008 PBA Rookie Draft and was the third overall pick after his stint with the Singapore Slingers.
Since wearing the ever-famous yellow and blue by the TNT franchise, Castro blossomed into a superstar point guard and had the luxury to play alongside Jimmy Alapag.
After Alapag decided to call it a career, Castro took over his reigns and was quick to establish himself as one of the best guards in PBA history.
After five years in the PBA, Castro elevated his status to international star after turning heads during the 2013 FIBA Asia Championship where Gilas Pilipinas won the silver medal.
Castro’s stellar and consistent outing earned him the moniker “Asia’s best point guard” after leading Gilas while also taking a spot in the FIBA ASIA Mythical Five.
Currently, Castro is looking to put the Tropang Giga back on the pedestal after losing the championship series against the San Miguel Beermen during the 2022 PBA Philippine Cup.
Castro, Oftana, RR Pogoy, Kelly Williams, and Poy Erram are seeking to kick off the Commissioner’s Cup with a bang and will be backstopped by super import Cameron Oliver in their quest for another PBA title.
