Thai Firm Plans 150MW Wind Project in Bago City
BACOLOD CITY – Mayor Marina Javellana-Yao has expressed strong support for a proposed 150-megawatt wind energy project in Bago City, Negros Occidental, following the recent visit of Thailand-based Sermsang Power Corp. Yao met with company officials on July 1 and welcomed their interest in investing in renewable energy in the city.

BACOLOD CITY – Mayor Marina Javellana-Yao has expressed strong support for a proposed 150-megawatt wind energy project in Bago City, Negros Occidental, following the recent visit of Thailand-based Sermsang Power Corp.
Yao met with company officials on July 1 and welcomed their interest in investing in renewable energy in the city.
She emphasized Bago’s commitment to fostering investment and job creation, calling the local economy’s future “bright.”
Yao said the city encourages investments that generate employment for Bagonhons, adding that the local government backs such ventures through investor-friendly policies.
She cited the upcoming City Investment and Incentive Code, which is designed to streamline investment processes.
Sermsang Power Chief Operating Officer Passakorn Panyaratanakorn said the company, which has 15 years of experience in renewable energy across five countries including Thailand, is considering Bago City for its first venture in the Philippines.
The proposed project involves the construction of 23 wind turbines and is expected to begin operations by the end of 2026.
It is projected to have a 20-year lifespan.
The initiative is anticipated to create at least 100 local jobs in its initial phase, with potential expansion in the future.
Also present during the meeting were Sermsang Senior Business Development Officer Yaowapa Klaonopparat, Almana Power representative Yryne Valenzuela, and Yao’s chief of staff, Dr. Jonathan Lobaton.
