A 17-year-old boy was arrested after allegedly stabbing a fish vendor to death shortly after midnight on May 18 in Miag-ao, Iloilo.
Police are still investigating what prompted the suspect, identified only as alias Elmer of Barangay Baybay Sur, to stab the victim, alias Reniel.
According to reports, the 25-year-old victim was standing in front of their home in Barangay Sapa around 12:50 a.m. Sunday when the suspect approached and stabbed him.
Reniel was struck on the left side of his chest.
Members of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) rushed him to the Miag-ao Rural Health Unit.
He was later referred to Rep. Pedro Trono Memorial District Hospital in Guimbal but was declared dead on arrival.
Police Maj. Richard Lao, Miag-ao police chief, said the barangay was observing a Flores de Mayo-related activity at the time of the incident.
Reniel’s mother, Ma. Helen, witnessed the attack.
She told police there was no argument or commotion before her son was stabbed.
The suspect was turned over to the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO).
He is currently under the custody of the Miag-ao PNP’s Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD).
