What a full-circle moment for Steve Nash.
The NBA legend returns to the franchise where he won his two Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards and was named the Phoenix Suns’ senior adviser, confirmed on Sept. 23, 2025.
It was team owner Mat Ishbia who announced Phoenix’s latest offseason development following a stunning trade that sent Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets in exchange for a load of young talents that included Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks.
“Steve Nash was an amazing player and exactly what the Phoenix Suns are all about,” posted Ishbia on social media.
“His grit, toughness, and winning mentality have defined our organization in the past, and I’m so excited to share that Steve is formally joining the Suns as a senior adviser and will help us define our future for years to come!”
Nash spent eight fruitful years with the Phoenix organization, where he bagged back-to-back MVP honors while turning the Suns into serious NBA title contenders.
Together with the high-flying Amar’e Stoudemire and two-way star Shawn Marion, the trio led Phoenix to consecutive playoff campaigns but always fell short at the hands of Tim Duncan and the San Antonio Spurs.
Despite the frustrating postseason losses, the Nash-led Phoenix squad was widely recognized as the franchise that helped revolutionize the pick-and-roll game, which was later picked up by the Los Angeles Clippers’ Chris Paul and Blake Griffin.
However, in 2015, Nash officially hung up his NBA jersey and called it a career, but came back to the league during the 2020 season when he coached the Brooklyn Nets.
Aside from his back-to-back MVPs, Nash was also an eight-time All-Star, a three-time member of the All-NBA First Team, and a five-time NBA assists leader.
He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2018, while also receiving enshrinement into the Fédération Internationale de Basketball (FIBA).
