ROXAS CITY, Capiz – Police on Tuesday filed an arson charge against a 38-year-old man who torched their two-storey house at Sitio Lasa in Brgy. Ambilay Panitan, Capiz on Monday.
The Panitan police filed the case before the Capiz Provincial Prosecutor’s Office against Ryan Distor of Brgy. Ambilay Panitan town.
No was hurt when the house of Marilyn Distor, 38, went up in smoke after Ryan set it afire.
Marilyn said the family decided to file the case to prevent Ryan from harming them.
Investigation by the Panitan Municipal Police Station indicated that witnesses saw Ryan pouring gasoline on the house around 4AM Monday.
Ryan was suffering from mental illness and even attempted to hurt his parents in the past days.
Several residents helped put out the fire, but it quickly spread to the entire house.
It took one hour for the fire truck of the Bureau of Fire Protection-Panitan Fire Station to respond because of the very narrow road leading to the area.
Arson investigators estimated the damage at PHP100,000.
