BACOLOD CITY — A 12-year-old boy was killed after he was sideswiped by a multicab driven by a soldier in front of a convenience store in Barangay Tinampa-an, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, on Wednesday.
Police Lt. Daleen Grace Loreno, deputy chief of the Cadiz City Police Station, said the victim was crossing the street when he stumbled and suddenly stood while reaching the second lane.
Loreno said the 33-year-old soldier did not notice the boy, who was on his lunch break when the incident happened.
The soldier was driving from his camp in Murcia town to Escalante City to augment personnel when the incident occurred shortly after noon, she added.
The victim fell on the road and sustained injuries, and he was declared dead at a hospital.
Loreno said both parties reached a settlement after the soldier signified he would shoulder the burial expenses.
Cadiz City and Escalante City are in Negros Occidental, a province on Negros Island in the central Philippines.
