BACOLOD CITY — The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology–Negros Island Region (BJMP-NIR) released six Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) from the Negros Occidental District Jail–Male Dormitory in Barangay Tabunan, Bago City, on Dec. 24.
Jail Chief Inspector Juniven Rey Umadhay, BJMP-NIR spokesperson, said the released PDLs had been previously charged with crimes including murder, homicide, reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, acts of lasciviousness, grave threats, and violations of Batas Pambansa Blg. 881 (Omnibus Election Code), and Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002).
Umadhay explained that the individuals were released after fully serving their sentences, with time deductions granted under Republic Act No. 10592 or the Good Conduct Time Allowance law.
He said their consistent demonstration of good behavior during incarceration qualified them for release.
The BJMP emphasized that the release of eligible PDLs followed existing laws, court orders, and due process to ensure public safety was not compromised.
The agency added that reuniting former inmates with their families during the holidays supports the restoration of family ties—an essential step toward emotional healing and reintegration into society.
Umadhay also noted that the release contributes to the ongoing effort to decongest jail facilities, allowing BJMP to enhance management, security, and welfare services for remaining PDLs.
