Jannik Sinner returned to the ATP winning column after dominating Learner Tien, 6–2, 6–2, and bagged the China Open tennis tournament championship title on Oct. 1, 2025, in Beijing.
The Italian ace bounced back from a final loss at the US Open a month ago and displayed the exact opposite of what the fans witnessed at the National Tennis Center.
Coming off a semifinal win full of lessons against Alex de Minaur, Sinner was more than ready to take on the rolling Tien and gained an early edge after scoring an early break in the opening set.
Unlike his inconsistent groundstrokes against de Minaur that resulted in a 1–1 split, Sinner was laser-focused in sending the ball to Tien’s backhand, which made it difficult for the American to reset and turn to his forehand side.
The sequence went on until the fifth game, with Tien caught on an isolated island without any adjustments due to the blitzing speed of Sinner’s signature forehand strike.
Tien was able to recover in the first two games of the next set after capitalizing on his strong service games, but Sinner proved to be too much, dominating the net exchanges that marked the start of his breakaway moment.
With another service break tallied to his sheet, Sinner moved a game away from securing the trophy in Beijing, hammering every down-the-line opportunity he got that made the whole game uncomfortable for Tien.
The young American turned desperate and fired a string of topspin lob shots to preserve his energy, but Sinner positioned himself in the middle of the court to pull off three big off-the-bounce forehand winners that sealed the deal.
Sinner capped off his successful bounce back in China with 97 total points won, including three breaks and 31 on the return.
“It is a very, very special place for me,” Sinner said after winning in Beijing.
“My team, thanks for understanding and working with me. Not all the team is here, so hopefully the rest are watching from home. Thanks for working with me and we will try to improve and push for more and let’s see what the rest of the season looks like, but I am very happy to share this with all of you.”
