BACOLOD CITY — A 76-year-old woman died and another woman, 67, was injured after a canter truck struck them before crashing into a telecommunications post along Alijis-Murcia Road in Barangay Singcang-Airport here on Wednesday.
Police Major Elmer Bonilla, head of the Traffic Enforcement Unit, identified the fatality as “Teresita,” a resident of Barangay Sum-ag here.
Injured was “Gretel,” a resident of Barangay Taculing here.
She is recovering in a hospital.
Traffic Enforcement Unit records showed that the two women were standing by the roadside when the truck, which was making a right turn, overshot onto the shoulder and hit them.
The 66-year-old truck driver was also taken to a hospital and was later brought to the police station.
Bonilla said the driver was allegedly intoxicated when the crash happened shortly after 4 p.m.
He added that Teresita’s family is pursuing charges against the driver, who was released from police custody on Thursday after the lapse of the reglementary detention period.
