BORACAY ISLAND — The son of Sen. Jinggoy Estrada and his companion were allegedly mauled early morning on May 24 at Boracay Island in Malay, Aklan.
The incident occurred around 2:20 a.m. Saturday as Julian Estrada, 29, and his friend Jeff, 24, both from Marikina City, were walking near the D’Mall area at Station 2 in Barangay Balabag.
The two claimed they were followed by three men after leaving OM Bar.
Without provocation, the suspects allegedly attacked and beat them.
According to the Malay Municipal Police Station, Patrolman Reyster Padura responded immediately to the scene.
Padura blew his whistle, prompting the suspects to flee toward the beachfront at Station 3 in Barangay Manoc-Manoc.
He chased the suspects but was unable to catch them.
Padura assisted the victims and brought them to Ciriaco S. Tirol Hospital for medical examination.
In a follow-up operation, police arrested three 18-year-old suspects—two from Barangay Manoc-Manoc and one from Barangay Balabag.
On Instagram, Julian Estrada addressed the incident and his absence from a planned appearance at Epic Boracay.
“To everyone expecting to see me at Epic tonight, I won’t be able to make it,” he posted.
“Got caught in a really unfortunate situation last night and need time to recover, both physically and mentally. Appreciate all your understanding and support. See you soon.”
The Police Regional Office 6 confirmed the incident, though the Malay PNP has yet to issue an official statement.
Brig. Gen. Jack Wanky, chief of Western Visayas police, said charges for physical injuries are being prepared against the suspects.
