One of the most underrated players in the PBA has called it a career.
Thank you for the 14 PBA seasons filled with relentless energy and drive to strive, Mr. Sean Anthony!
“Saying goodbye to something you love is one of the hardest things to do, which is probably why it has taken me so long to share this. But here it goes: I am officially retiring from basketball,” Anthony posted on his LinkedIn profile.
According to the swingman, what pushed him to choose life after professional basketball was the recovery of his son from cancer.
“Seven months later, and after six rounds of immunotherapy and chemotherapy, I’m beyond grateful to say that my son is now cancer-free,” Anthony added.
During the recuperation phase, Anthony and his family moved to Singapore, where his son’s treatment took place.
After the successful road to recovery, Anthony relocated to Vancouver, Canada, and is now working as a senior consultant at EY People Advisory Services, a well-respected accounting firm.
Known as a fierce competitor, Anthony earned the respect of his peers and rivals with his brand of basketball, which was pure hustle and energy.
Whether it was diving for a loose ball or sacrificing his body for a charging take foul, Anthony did it all to help his team win.
Anthony was the sixth overall pick in the 2010 PBA Draft, where he was chosen by the Air21 Express.
He played for a total of nine PBA franchises and last rendered his services to the NLEX Road Warriors from 2023 to 2025.
The do-it-all skipper earned his first individual recognition in 2016 when he was named to the PBA Mythical Second Team.
During his 15-year career, Anthony collected numerous awards, including a PBA Mythical First Team selection in 2019 and the PBA Defensive Player of the Year award in the same season.
“Basketball has been a cornerstone of my life since I was a kid, and being able to live out my childhood dream for 15 years has been the greatest gift,” Anthony added.
